Out with the Old…

My husband loves old stuff.  I guess that is a good thing since I am getting older by the second.

He saves things and squirrels them away in the attic or a storage compartment that we have to pay for monthly.  Things are mounting up.  We have lived in this house longer than I have lived anywhere. (First husband moved us 21 times in 24 years).  So, now we have been here 10 years and I am drowning in clutter.

I can’t stand clutter!  So, I gave him a speech about having 3 more weeks before he goes back to work after being on medical leave of absence for 5 months.  He agreed that this is an excellent opportunity to clear things out.  We laughed when he said, “Well, I guess we could move out and then move back in.”

Camping stuff, hiking stuff, furniture that belonged to children who are now adults and have moved on from their childhood, an old bicycle, stuff children wanted us to store…all of it is being sifted through. We’re supposed to keep financial records 5 years back, but 15 years is just too much!

It feels good.  Even if we do not get rid of anything, at least we’ll know where it is!

When he goes back to work June 2nd, I think he’ll be happy to get away from the “honey-do’s.”   And all our stuff will feel like new, because it made the cut.

How do you handle the clutter that life brings?  Spring cleaning?  Garage sale?
